Lesca Lunetier Eyewear: Heritage, Archives and Models

Lesca Lunetier: L'eccellenza degli occhiali artigianali francesi a Roma

Lesca Lunetier is a family eyewear house shaped by archives, expressive acetate and forms designed to outlive short trends. Its official story begins in 1964 and continues through the dialogue between Joël Lesca and the second generation, Mathieu and Bertrand.

Calling Lesca simply retro would miss the point. The proportions of the 1950s and 1960s become a starting point for contemporary colours, thicknesses, lenses and limited series.

Lesca Lunetier since 1964

Lesca works with European craftspeople, particularly in France and Germany, favouring human-scale workshops and factories. Frames are riveted and shaped to the brand’s specifications rather than conceived for anonymous mass production.

Archives curated by Joël Lesca and his sons feed both reissues and new collections. The result is not a literal copy of the past but a vocabulary adapted to current dimensions and tastes.

Acetate, volume and construction

Many Lesca frames emphasise cellulose acetate through generous fronts, sculpted edges and layered colour. Rivets and hinges support the construction. Production origin and lens configuration can vary, so always read the individual product page.

On sunglasses, organic or mineral lenses affect weight, colour and the overall impression. Some editions are numbered or limited, while others belong to ongoing iconic ranges.

Archives, reissues and upcycling

Lesca revisits historic shapes and also develops upcycling projects using vintage acetate stock. Existing material is recomposed into patchworks and combinations that are difficult to reproduce.

How to choose Lesca eyewear

Consider thickness

A substantial front becomes a strong feature on the face. Colour, height and the upper line should be assessed together.

Compare size and bridge

Similar-looking frames may fit very differently. Compare lens width, bridge and temples with a comfortable pair and read our guide to size, bridge and shape.

Choose for optical or sun use

Prescription frames must suit lens power and centration. With sunglasses, consider lens category, material and colour.
