Eyevan began in 1972 with an idea that was radical at the time: eyewear should be more than an optical tool and could be worn as part of fashion. Its “eyewear for dressing” concept created a language combining Japanese visual culture, classic proportions and manufacturing precision.
Today Eyevan is also an ecosystem of distinct brands and collections. Eyevan, Eyevan 7285, 10 Eyevan, E5 Eyevan and Eyevol have different histories and purposes, while sharing expertise developed around Sabae in Fukui Prefecture.
Eyevan since 1972
Eyevan started under the oversight of Kensuke Ishizu, founder of VAN Jacket, bringing fashion into eyewear. In 1985 the brand appeared in the United States and was noticed by Oliver Peoples, beginning wider international recognition.
After a pause in development, Eyevan was relaunched in 2018. Eyevan 7285 had already been established in 2013, while 10 Eyevan appeared in 2017.
Sabae and Japanese manufacturing
Production is linked to Sabae, one of the world’s major eyewear districts. High-precision machining and manual steps come together in components, engraving, hinges and finishing.
Value does not come from the Made in Japan label alone. Thickness, bridge, nose pads, temple tips and weight distribution must function as one system.
